Shopping in Berlin

Ten years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, The city of Berlin is in good path because it is becoming what it once was, Germany's premier city. As is fitting of a first-class metropolis with an international style, the shopping possibilities in the city are fantastic. We determined to see a close look at some of those possibilities, beginning at what has traditionally been the city's number one shopping address, the Kaufhaus des Westens, popularly known as KaDeWe on Kurforstendamm.

Since 1907, this shopping temple has been a tourist fascination in its own effort. The climax of the visits is on the department store's top floor, where the gourmet food department is situated. Nevertheless, KaDeWe is by no means the only first class shopping address in Berlin. The next stop takes to the eastern part of the city, to the shopping passages at Friedrichstrasse.

Here in the second-hand shops and chic boutiques is the place where young Berliners shop. Finally, you can head back to the western side of the city to visit a department store called Shrill, whose customers range from the mundane to the exotic, and whose merchandise ranges from colorful stage costumes to men's ties that glitter.
